A budgeting app that never needs your bank login.
Berm works from the file your bank already lets you download. Your login stays with you, nothing reads your account in the background, and nothing breaks when your bank changes how you sign in.
What a file gives you
You choose what Berm sees, and when. An export is a snapshot you hand over, not a standing connection. Nothing is fetched from your accounts between one and the next.
Nothing to hand over. There is no bank username or password to type into anything, and no company in the middle holding access to your account.
Nothing to keep alive. A live connection needs signing in again whenever a bank changes how you sign in. A file needs nothing: almost every bank lets you download one, and Berm works out the shape of yours.
What it costs you
An export now and then. Once a week keeps the forecast current, and the app says when yours is getting old rather than quietly projecting from last month. Importing the same file twice changes nothing, so there is no keeping track of what you have already given it. There are steps for getting the file out of each bank.
The choice, later
Some people would rather not export a file at all. For them, a bank connection may come later: an option you switch on, most likely a small paid one, because each connection costs us. It will never be something Berm needs. Everything it does today works from a file, and keeps working from one for everybody who never connects anything. None of it is offered yet: it is being tested by the people who make Berm.
